In the world of theatre, the French word “plateau” refers to the stage — the place where stories unfold and emotions are shared. Inspired by this poetic vision, designer Margherita Matticari imagined Le Plateau together with the L’Atelier du Vin Studio as a setting where the Art of Enjoying Fine Wine takes center stage.

More than an object, Le Plateau is a domestic performance space. The curtain rises with every bottle opened. Each glass plays its role, and every gesture becomes an elegant moment meant to be shared. Picture the scene: a timbered terrace in a Venetian palazzo, Murano in the distance, a late summer afternoon. Time captured in a bottle.

Act I: The Object as Volume

Le Plateau is conceived as a piece of minimalist architecture. It was not designed simply as a tray, but as a creation of pure volume. This subtle distinction transforms elegance into experience. Its presence does not dominate a space — it structures it with quiet confidence and refined character.

Act II: The Nobility of Wood

Crafted from carefully selected cherry wood and shaped without artifice by skilled artisans, Le Plateau reveals the authenticity of a living, noble material. Its slightly raised base creates a floating effect: the stage upon which bottle and glasses rest appears to levitate effortlessly. Precision joinery and pure lines turn craftsmanship into tangible emotion.

Act III: The Twist

Every stage has its backstage. If Le Plateau is the main scene, its two discreetly integrated drawers lead behind the curtain, where the magic happens. This subtle hide-and-seek design is one of its most distinctive characteristics.

One drawer, lacquered in luminous yellow, houses ten handmade leather coasters. The other, finished in deep blue lacquer, contains five essential Wine Tools for the tasting ritual. They are presented on a thick full-grain leather mat and held in place by discreet wooden inserts. The push-pull opening system ensures smooth and precise movement. The silver reflections of the tools illuminate the composition, creating a dialogue between warm cherry wood and vibrant lacquered tones.
