Vinotecas termoléctricas: pros y contras

Thermoelectric wine coolers: pros and cons

Thermoelectric wine coolers are an economical and quite efficient solution for wine preservation, provided the right conditions are met.

Thermoelectric wine coolers are an affordable and quite efficient solution for wine storage, provided the right conditions are met.

Their operation is based on the thermoelectric effect using a Peltier device. It is important to note that performance depends on the ambient temperature. Generally, they can cool up to 20ºC below the outside temperature; in other words, a model with a temperature range between 8ºC and 18ºC will be able to operate within that range as long as the ambient temperature does not exceed 28ºC. The ideal limit is usually around 25ºC.

This is the first difference from compressor wine coolers, which are not affected by outside temperature. If your wine cooler will be placed in a very warm location, it is better to choose a compressor model, even if it is more expensive.

Because thermoelectric wine coolers depend on the outside temperature for performance, they require space around them—at the front, back, and sides (at least 8 cm)—so air can circulate and prevent heat buildup around the unit. Therefore, they CANNOT BE BUILT IN under any circumstances.

Another factor to consider is energy consumption. Being less efficient, thermoelectric wine coolers consume more electricity than compressor models.

In any case, the thermoelectric wine coolers we sell at www.vinoteca.es are tried-and-tested models from brands that have sold tens of thousands of units worldwide, with more than satisfactory performance—as long as the above recommendations are followed. They are ideal for red wine, which does not require temperatures below 13ºC. They are economical, quiet, and compact.

Our range of thermoelectric wine coolers includes, among others, the LS8E, 12SILENCE, 18SILENCE, and 28SILENCE from La Sommelière, as well as the CV-12N models from Cave Vinum, which have been proven for years, are widely recognized, and come with a 3-year warranty—something only www.vinoteca.es can offer its customers.
